My
Story

My name is Brittney Y.S.L LeBlue and a South Central native who is no stranger to the many experiences that being born and raised in the inner city of LA has to offer.  I have been on my educational journey for 13 years. I started my pursuit of higher education in 2007. My main motivator to attend college was my son, who was also born in 2007. In 2012 I graduated from Sacramento City College, received an acceptance letter from Sacramento State, and discovered I was going to be a new mother again.

Graduating with my BA in Psychology in 2014 from California State University Sacramento,

I decided to continue my educational journey, and In the Fall of 2014, I began the Educational Technology Masters program at California State University, Sacramento.

My experience has been rewarding, in that I have developed personally and professionally by conquering every challenge throughout this process. I have most certainly wanted to give up at times, but I always had the determination to keep going.

When I first started my Masters program, I felt unprepared and suffered from extreme anxiety because I was unsure of how to succeed at this level of academia. The knowledge gained from the courses and connections made with other members in the cohort proved to be a positive experience. Throughout this journey I have developed a passion to support college students who are also parents like myself.

I strive to connect Student-Parents to resources that will increase Academic Success, promote Family Bonding and improve Self-Care. One thing for certain is that education creates opportunities that can not only change lives but, in some cases, save them. The advantages that have been afforded to my children are a direct result of my ability to persevere and earn a college degree. At my core, I am is still just a kid at heart trying to make my LA dreams come true.

SPARTAN Race

I am challenging myself mentally & physically to start training for this epic competition. The Spartan Race is a series of obstacle races of varying distance and difficulty ranging from 3 miles to marathon distances. They are held in the United States and  30 countries, including Canada, South Korea, Australia, and several European countries.

The Super Hero Scholarship

I aim to continue the development of an annual scholarship fund to support Student-Parents. In 2017 I organized a GoFundMe to raise money for college students with children. In 30 days I received $1000 in financial support. I was able to award two families a $500 scholarship to use toward their education and children.
